This is our SHERU Matcha Bowl.
This special macht Bowl was found in a pottery house in Seto, in Aichi Prefecture. The business was founded around 160 year ago by a Samurai group (kashin). The Samurai started selling pottery on the side at first to get an extra way of income aside from their service as a Samurai warrior. The pottery house was build at the end of the Meji period which is around 1868.
The SHERU Matcha Bowl is made in a Tenmoku pottery style. The Tenmoku style is deinde by a deep, conical shape with a groove around the lip, and a small foot. Tenmoku chawan are known for their beautiful, metallic glazes.
This Matcha Bowl is covered with a 'Oil drop Yuteki Tenmoku' glaze.
The Yuteki glaze gives this bowl a metallic shell like look.
Which is the reason this Matcha Bowl is named SHERU.
