Introducing our “Kachimushi” Matcha bowl.
The owner of the shop told us about the dragonfly patern on the bowl.“Dragonflies are insects that can only fly straight. Samurai liked the strength of flying straight during the Warring States period, and the dragonfly was used as a symbol of victory, swiftness and determinedness.
Samurai admired the insect and named it “Kachimushi” meaning “victorious insect”.”
The pattern on the bowl was created in Kyoto. The creator is Yoshimura Rakuiri. He made the Matcha Bowl to show his admiration for “Kachimushi”.
The painting style of the bowl is called “Sometsuke”. The paint contains a cobalt blue tint and is always used on a white based surface which is often porcelain.
